Welcome to the 2011-2012 season for the Covington High Marching Lions Boosters. We are looking forward to working with all of you to make this a great year.
The Marching Lions Boosters support the Marching Band, Dancin’ Darlins, and the Golden Silks. We are responsible for running the home and visitor side concession stands, as well as transportation, refreshments and police details during away games for all three groups during the football season. In addition to the above, the Boosters are responsible for transportation, police details and food during the Mardi Gras Season for approximately 4-5 parades.
Recognizing that parental involvement and communication is the key to the success of the Booster programs, we encourage all parents/guardians to join the Marching Lions Boosters and attend the Marching Lions Boosters Meetings, which will be held on the second Tuesday of specified months at 7:00 pm. Our first booster meeting will take place on August 9, 2010. Please plan to attend.
We realize that the amount of information parents receive during the beginning of the year can be overwhelming. Listed below are the 2011-2012 Marching Lions Booster Officers. Please feel free to contact any one of us with any questions or concerns.

The purpose of the Marching Lions Booster program is to support the kids and provide them with necessary fund raising, supervision and to assist the sponsors with the maintenance of the uniforms and coordination of various functions the groups attend during the year. In order to be successful, we need the help of each and every parent.
Here is a short list of volunteers we will need. Some of these will take a few hours, some will take more, but all are necessary for the kids to be successful.
Alone, these are monumental tasks, but with the help of each of our parents, it will be a breeze!
- We will ask for fund raising assistance: suggestions for new fund raisers, organizing, collecting funds, making orders and assisting with disbursement of product.
- We will ask for chaperones for parades both in/around Covington and possibly in the New Orleans/Metairie area.
- We will need a parent to administer basic first aid to students during games, parades, etc.
- The students will need water during games, parades, etc. We need volunteers to fill, clean and maintain these bottles.
- We will need parents to grill hotdogs and hamburgers, make nachos, popcorn and jambalaya, run the concession windows (home and visitor) and help clean when it’s all over.
Free Jackets and Blankets you say? How does that work?
Once each student has completed 5 semesters in the Covington High Band, Dance Team or Flag Team, he/she will be rewarded with a Jacket. Additionally, after the student has completed 8 semesters the student will be rewarded with a CHS Blanket. Booster parents can “pay” for these jackets/blankets by volunteering their time and talents to the Marching Lions Boosters. In order for the student to receive their jacket free-of-charge, a parent/guardian must have accumulated at least 9 credits worth of specified volunteering during these 5 semesters. Parents can earn credits by working the concession stand during home games, helping with the initial concession clean-up in August, as well as volunteering to help during games to fill water bottles, pass out snacks, etc. There are limited spots available for this job so each parent will need to sign up in advance and only those that have signed up will receive credit for their service. Concession stand duties include but are not limited to taking orders, collecting monies, cooking the food, and clean-up. Each game worked is worth one credit and clean-up day is one credit.
Students can earn credits by volunteering for the clean-up day, as well as helping to fill the coolers on Thursday after practice before home games. Cooler fill-up requires two instances to earn one credit.
There is a Medical Release form enclosed. Sometimes it is necessary to distribute over the counter medicine to the students. Please note that we are unable to give your child any over the counter medication at any time unless this form is filled out and signed by a parent or guardian.
Marching Lions Booster Dues are $10 per family, per year. Voting membership is extended to those parents whose dues have been paid for the current year. Checks should be made out to CHS Marching Lions Boosters.
