Dear Students,
Welcome to the 2011-2012 Covington High School Marching Lion Band. I am very excited about the upcoming year. This year we will have more than 130 members in the marching band and we are continuing to grow. Please take the time to make our new members feel welcome when you see them.
We are planning another exciting year for our marching band, concert bands, jazz band, and the formation of a Brass Band. In order to prepare for the upcoming marching season, we need to get started with our annual band camp. Note there are some changes to the percussion days. You will need to wear a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes for band camp. You should also wear sunscreen and bring water or sports drinks. A hat is a good idea but not required. You will also need your instrument, music, and a pencil at all music rehearsals.
Part of the requirements for participation in the marching band is to have a LHSAA physical each year. This is the same physical that is needed to play sports here at CHS. If you have not gotten a physical for this year, please take care of that in the next few weeks before band camp. A form is included in this letter.
Our annual spring trip will be to Orlando, Florida. Our trip to Gatlinburg was awesome. Not just because of Dolly, but because it is fun to go on a trip anywhere and play music with your friends. So be sure to participate in the fundraisers the boosters will offer throughout the year so that you can make the trip.
Our first performance will be on Tuesday August 2nd in the afternoon. We will be playing a pep rally for the freshman orientation. More details will be given out at band camp. If you have a conflict with our rehearsal schedule or if you have any questions, email me at neal.naquin@stpsb.org, give me a call at school (893-6594), or on my cell (590-0392).
Sincerely,
Neal Naquin
