Parades
Volunteers
are needed to chaperone at parades. Chaperones walk beside the
students to keep the crowd back and to provide water to the students
who are marching.
Chaperones
do not push or argue with the crowds. If the people will not move
back, simply stop to let the students know there is an
obstruction. When the next chaperone reaches you, move back to
where you were. The next chaperone will stop and take over waving
the students past the obstruction. The same procedure is used for
any obstruction that can not be easily moved out of the way.
(Please note horses have been known to drop obstructions in the middle
of the street. These obstructions should be pointed out to the
marching students as soon as they are seen.)
Chaperones also help fill the water bottles before parades, and some
chaperones are designated to bring new water bottles to the chaperones
who are walking beside the students. Chaperones walking beside
the marching students will carry water bottles to serve water to the
students as they need it. You should not leave your spot beside
the students to get water - it will be brought to you when you run out.
